FILTER OPERATION

The water entering the filter passes through a set of nozzles on the entrance nozzle plate. This causes the water to increase
its velocity and forces it into a downward rotational pattern across the screen surface. A velocity tube used in conjunction with the
nozzles keeps the water at an optimum high velocity down the entire length of the Tornado Filter Screen. Tornado Mining Water Filters are
designed to flow at a maximum of 1.6 gallons per square inch, per minute through the screen element. This low flow velocity through the
screen element allows the higher velocity of flow down the length of the screen to produce a “selfcleaning” action. This “self-cleaning” action wash-es sand and debris downward into the debris catch basin. From the debris catch basin, the sand and debris are flushed out through a flush valve, while filtered water flows out of the Tornado Filter’s Discharge port. In order to maintain the optimum self-cleaning action of the Tornado Filter it must operate within given flow limits. The flow through the filter can be lowered by plugging one or more nozzle holes in the entrance nozzle plate, thereby keeping the water at an optimum velocity down the screen with a re-duced flow rate. Proper Flow rates will result in a 4-8 PSI pressure drop across the Tornado Filter.
